We Only Live Once

MStudio Movement Theatre, Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania, 2015

This adaptation of Eurpides’ Alcestis is almost entirely my own text, with a few bits of the original sprinkled in. With these ruins poking through, I want to remind the audience of the play's roots, but I want to jar them, too. Classical texts seem honest to me only when uneven. I distrust the smooth translation of a very old text because these plays have been rewritten, lost, had coffee spilled on them, so many times. Greek plays bear the most coffee stains of all.
